Things to Do in  American Canyon

The American Canyon neighborhood is blessed with an abundance of fun attractions for residents and visitors to enjoy. Here’s a shortlist of our favorites:

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (formerly known as Marine World, New Marine World Theme Park, and Africa USA Marine World) is a 135-acre (55 ha) animal theme park located in Vallejo, California, off Interstate 80 between San Francisco and Sacramento. Roller coasters and other amusement rides are featured at the park. Since 1999, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has been a part of the Six Flags chain of amusement parks.

On the southern edge of the Napa Valley, there is a small, family-run vineyard and winery called Elkhorn Peak Cellars. Elkhorn Peak Cellars, owned and run by father-daughter team Ken and Elise Nerlove, produce 1,000 cases of wine each year. No stores or retailers carry it, they only offer their limited amount of wine directly to customers. While they have no intentions of expanding, their goal is to develop and produce small-batch, ultra-premium Napa Valley wines in addition to keeping a family farm going for future generations.

Since 1989, Spencer Marshall of Marshall’s Farm Honey Beekeepers has been gathering the honey in the San Francisco Bay area that is 100 percent pure, 100 percent natural, unfiltered, unheated, and uncooked.  They sell their goods to restaurants and distributors and direct to grocery and specialty shops. Orders may be placed online via the farm’s website. In American Canyon, they provide farm visits, honey tasting, and product sales. They also offer farm tours and honey tastings at their headquarters in American Canyon.

Chardonnay Golf Club & Vineyards is an 18-hole semi-private Napa Valley golf course located in Jameson Canyon, Southeast of the city of Napa, at the entrance to the world-renowned Napa Valley wine area. Its championship Napa Valley golf course will provide a test for players of all skill levels, and it is Northern California’s premier golf destination. The course meanders through 150 acres of Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Noir gardens before reaching several waterways.

Paintball Jungle is a paintball field in American Canyon, near Napa Wine Country, and the San Francisco North Bay Area in Northern California. Along with the movie set-type paintball forts and bunkers that contribute to the theme as if you’re in a paintball video game, the paintball park has approx. 40 acres of action-packed outdoor paintball fields with terrain ranging from dense jungle fields to Speedball games.

The park offers beginner and children’s paintball games to cater the novice paintball player. It also specializes in business outings, corporate team building, private events, family reunions, birthday parties, bachelor parties, and youth group summer camps with paintball gear available for rent.

The park is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 A.M. to 4 P.M., but private parties can be scheduled Monday through Sunday at any time seven days a week. All-day, big games, small beginner games, woodsball, capture the flag, attack and defend, center flag, speedball, and more are available.

Parks, Schools & Other Points of Interest in the American Canyon

The American Canyon in California is also home to some amazing parks, public libraries, and schools for its citizens to enjoy.  These facilities are all world-class, beautifully maintained, and clean so residents of surrounding communities often visit to enjoy them.  Here’s a short list all located in the American Canyon neighborhood:

The Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum preserves and exhibits the rich and diverse history of the city of Vallejo, as well as the former US Naval Shipyard at Mare Island, in Northern California. The historic Old City Hall in Vallejo, which was built in 1927 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, houses the Museum. The Museum has five galleries with displays kept in over 25,000 square feet. A panoramic view of the City and Mare Island is available through the roof, with a functioning submarine periscope. The history of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, which was founded in 1854 as the United States Navy’s first base in the Pacific, is recounted via interpretive murals on the main staircase.

The Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum is the ideal venue for banquets, weddings, meetings, community gatherings, concerts, and other special events. In addition to the two meeting rooms (which seat up to 300), the Grand Hall can accommodate up to 140 for luncheons or dinners, and 250 for other gatherings. The Heritage Chamber has theater-style seating for up to 100 people, stage lighting, PA system, and a grand piano – an ideal venue for meetings, concerts, or recitals.

The Napa County Regional Park & Open Space District and the City of American Canyon work together to operate Wetlands Edge Park. The trails offer numerous opportunities to explore the wetlands and Napa River as they follow the shoreline of the Napa-Sonoma Marsh.

The wetlands are popular with people for family picnics, hikes, and bike rides since they make an excellent location for bird viewing and taking in the sunrise or sunset. The trails have two entrances: one at the end of Green Island Road, where there is also a kayak and canoe launch pad and other short unimproved levee-top trails, and the other on Wetlands Edge Road and Eucalyptus Drive, where there is paved parking and restrooms.

In the recently renovated Crawford Building, formerly the American Canyon City Hall, the library serving the community of American Canyon opened on August 14, 2012. The Napa County bookmobile and a rented storefront facility have previously served the neighborhood.

The American Canyon Library Collection has everything you need. They have subscriptions for area newspapers, magazines, and books that will delight anyone. The collection also includes DVDs or CDs with music from all around the world as well as audio versions of some popular Fiction novels so readers can enjoy their favorite stories on the go too.

Benicia State Recreation Area is a state park located in Benicia, California, US. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of downtown Benicia and borders Glen Cove in Vallejo. The park covers 447 acres (181 ha) of marsh, grassy slopes, and rocky beaches along the narrowest section of the Carquinez Strait. Southampton Creek and the tidal marsh front Southampton Bay, where the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers’ combined waters approach San Pablo Bay.
